“ I've eaten at some amazing restaurants all over the country and the chicken and waffles I had at Sunny Side were better than most anything I've had anywhere, including the beef Wellington at Gordon Ramsay's. This was, IMO, the perfect meal. The place is small and we waited awhile for a table, but it was so worth the wait. I don't get to Sacramento often but I know for sure the next time I'm there I will be back at Sunny Side. ”
“ I went on a Thursday morning around 10 am and was seated promptly but right after we were seated the waitlist began filling up. The restaurant has an open air kitchen set up so be ready to smell food in the air. The location is also quite small, if you have more than 5 people its best to call for reservations. Parking is also quite challenging as this stretch of 19th doesnt boast much street parking. The kitchen was relatively quiet otherwise, not a lot of banging or yelling. The service was cold this time around for my party in particular, no warm greetings or introduction, only seated quickly and about 10 minutes afterwards a punctuality "What do you want?" Perhaps an off day for service. The food was an interesting take, the menu offers a fusion of asian and american but the fusion lay mostly in the menu only. We ordered the Tornado Omurice and the bacon Benedict. The omurice was a unique combination of flavors and textures, sweet, sour, savory all come through this dish. Each component compliments eachother well in terms of taste but the texture could use a little help, the rice itself was a bit mushy in some parts. The bacon Benedict was delicious with the ponzu hollendais sauce. Their take serves the benedict on a type of bruschetta rather than the traditional english muffin. The tartness brought a new definition to cut through the richness of the bacon and runny egg yolk. The bacon stood out unfortunately not in a good way. It's two thick cut pieces of bacon cooked extra crispy so it was difficult to chew. After a while in the hollendais it becomes leathery. I would steer clear or ask for a less crispy cook if you have sensitive teeth. The highlight for me were the potatoes, extra crispy exterior, soft tender interior with the slightest bit of seasoning. The menu is extensive and I would like to go back to try more! ”
“ The hubby wanted to dine here for breakfast, but today, being our day off, we ended up coming around the lunch hours. There was a line out the door which we were prepared for. The wait was maybe 10 minutes if that, all the parties ahead of us were seated right away. The atmosphere is inviting and very chill. Everyone around us was enjoying their time and food. We saw a lot of the chicken and waffle dishes being served in the majority of the tables. Since we are pescetarean, we opted for the Yuzu Benedict and Unagi Tornado Omurice. Both were very good, but the Omurice was just perfect today! The staff were so attentive and helpful to answer any questions. Tables were cleaned efficiently for other guests to dine right after the previous ones. We had to try the Lemon ricotta pancakes for dessert, which was so good too! First visit and yes, 5 stars no question! ”
“ The food was alright.... and underwhelming. I got the omurice and if I'm being completely honest, it was overwhelmingly sweet. Coming from someone who has an extremely sweet tooth and not a picky eater at all, I didn't really enjoy the dish... Presentation was great and customer service was nice, but the food... too sweet. My friends and their dishes were also severely sweet. The omurice sauce was too much, but the base itself (fried rice and eggs + eel) weren't bad. I'd recommend if you get the omurice, separate the sauce from the dish.... ”
“ Great brunch find in Sacramento’s underrated food scene! Expect a bit of a wait (we waited ~15 min for 2), but it’s worth it—popular spot with a fun Asian-fusion twist on classic brunch. Pro tip: join the waitlist ahead of time on Yelp to save time. The Sunnyside Espresso (OJ + espresso) was refreshing, the omurice was the star of the show, and the Yuzu Benedict was a close second. Service stayed attentive even with the place packed. Menu and vibe reminds me of Kitchen Story in Oakland and SF if you're familiar with those spots ”
